CLEMATIS PRUNING GROUPS
GROUP A Comprises alpinas, macropetarlas, montanas and all the evergreen varieties. They all have small flowers which are produced on the old wood in winter or spring.
They should be pruned often after flowering only to reduce the overall size of the plant.
GROUP B These are the early large flowered hybrids which flower in May-June on the old wood and again in August-September on the new stems.
Cut out any weak or damaged stems in early March and train hard wood into its permanent position.
GROUP C This is a mixed group of small and large flowered varieties which flower only on new stems in the second half of the calendar year.
Cut back to 12" (30cm) from the ground in early March every year, thus removing all the old wood.
  JUST REMEMBER
IF IT FLOWERS BEFORE JUNE, DON'T PRUNE!
